Red Columbine is a lovely, compact perennial with graceful red blooms. It readily hybridizes with the yellow columbine, often presenting yellow and red combinations in the flowers. It is a woodland plant that prefers part shade exposure, although it is somewhat adaptable. It should not be planted in full sun though.
Red Columbine likes moisture but must be in well-drained soil. They do better in soils that are not too rich. Blooms attract hummingbirds, bees, butterflies, and hawk moths. Seeds are eaten by finches and buntings.
